You Just Never Know
Checking my internet stats often leads to the raising of an eyebrow or two. You just never know what is going to lead people to one of your sites. When it comes to my stats, though, one thing never changes. My most viewed photo ever is one of John Frusciante and Josh Klinghoffer. It was taken outside the Vista Theatre in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles in March 2008 at a screening of musician, producer, and film maker Daniel Lanois’ rock-u-mentary entitled “Here Is What Is”. Spaceland asked me to document the event, and it’s still one of the more interesting concerts I’ve attended. A couple of my favorite concert pics came from that evening, thanks to the cool shadows on the red movie curtain, and the music and musicianship were absolutely superb.
I’m pretty pathetic when it comes to celebrity sightings, so I’m thankful for people like the security guard on duty that night who said “you should take a picture of that guy. He’s one of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.” Mind you, the Chili Peppers hit the mainstream in a huge way during my high school years, and I’m still a fan today. Even though I’d looked straight at him, I had no idea Mr. Frusciante was there. None. Hardly a day goes by, though, when a keyword search for “John Fruciante” doesn’t land someone on this photo. And it’s not like he’s the only person of interest I’ve photographed. Keifer Sutherland was at the same event, as was Billy Bob Thornton (who, by the way, gave a spoken word performance from “Slingblade” during the concert) as well as a smattering of other celebs from events I’ve photographed around town.
None of them has been looked at more than the shot of this trio:
